Back in the climbing game!

by on 02/21/2011

After taking off almost four years from climbing to engage in off road dirt bike riding I’m glad to say that I’m back into the climbing game in one piece. At the time I thought the demands of off road riding would be a great cross train tool for climbing and it is… then the injuries started mounting up. With twisted knees, blown out shoulders, a sprained ankle and a broken rib, I quickly learned I couldn’t climb very consistently at all, but I still could keep riding and I couldn’t stop. I’ve managed to stop riding now for over a year but could relapse at any moment…

When I’m not being a photographer I’m mostly found sport climbing and for those of you who understand that game you can say that its relatively safe, however first thing I noticed when I tied in to the sharp end of a rope again was  how scared I was,  I was perfectly safe but very scared! I found it interesting  that when I’m blasting around on a moto I should be scared but I’m not and when I’m run out on lead on some sport route I’m scared when I shouldn’t be.  I may ride again some time but rock climbing is my passion and right now the plan is to keep it safe, not get hurt, climb a lot and take photos and video of it all!

Here is some of the climbing I’ve seen over the last couple of months.

Steph Forte on one of the more notable ascents that I witnessed this year…  at 42 she’s not slowing down  and did the most impressive redpoint of Dont Call Me Coach 13d,  which over the years has gotten a consensus rating of hard 13d borderline 14a.

Couple of weeks ago Joey Kinder and I did a trip to Mt Potosi, being that its in Las Vegas and everything else there is fake this place is naturally manufactured and can provide a lot of fun!

Bill Ramsey at 50 yrs old doing a very impressive one hang of Reverse Polarity 14b

Heather Robinson also doing a one hang of Power Windows 13d

Joey doing Mt Potosi 14a after falling off the last move on his second try

Other notable accents that I saw earlier in the season in the VRG were Joey Kinder doing an old project in the Fossil Cave, Centerfold 14b

Lauren Lee making a quick and easy second try ascent of Dynosour 13c
